The
Counseling Model
Restorative Therapy
"Brethren, if any be taken in a fault, you who
are spiritual, restore such a one
"Galatians 6:1
The
Bible Is Authority
Full Restoration Requires an objective standard for all parties involved
in the counseling process to agree to adhere to, and receive instruction
from. Restorative Therapy believes this standard to be the Bible.
Restorative Therapy counsels the verbal plenary inspiration of the
Word of God, as well as its infallibility and sufficiency. (II Timothy
3:16-17)
The
Principle of Position
Full Restoration Requires an understanding of and belief in the Principle
of our Position "in Christ." Restorative Therapy believes
that all believers were crucified with Christ, raised and seated in
heavenly places "in Christ." (Ephesians 1:3; Colossians
4:1-4; Romans 6:6) We are in Him and He is in us, by the Person of
the Holy Spirit, to live His glorious life through us while still
including us in the benefits of the "exchanged life."
The
Biblical View of Anthropology
Full Restoration Requires a belief in the Biblical explanation of
the anthropology of man. Restorative Therapy believes that man is
a Trichotomy as opposed to a Dichotomy. He consists of body and soul
and spirit. (I Thessalonians 5:23) Restorative Therapy approaches
counseling directed to the inner (spiritual) part of man to affect
lasting change. The proper application of Spiritual Gifts is essential
when counseling beyond the mind and body.
The
Knowledge of Biblical Doctrines
Full Restoration Requires Divine viewpoint as opposed to human viewpoint
regarding the source of 'negative consequence behavior.' Restorative
Therapy places accentuation on truth as it is found in the Word of
God versus the lies that stem from human belief systems. First a man
believes - then he thinks, feels and acts. Consequently, our beliefs
determine our actions. A basic knowledge of Bible Doctrine allows
the counselor to discern the difference between man's solutions and
God's answers regarding life controlling problems.
The
Application of Truth
Full Restoration Requires the constant process of bringing our heavenly
position into our earthly condition. The daily application of the
death, burial, and resurrection of Christ to our lives by the Holy
Spirit allows for the "renewing of the mind." (Romans 12:2)
Restorative Therapy teaches the client how to "put off the old
man and put on the new." (Colossians 3:10-17) Once principles
of truth from the Word of God are illumined by The Holy Spirit, the
client must obey (act on or do) what they see. (James 1:22)
The
Invisible War
Full Restoration Requires a clear understanding of the three-fold
enemy of the Christian. (1) The World System and all of the 'things'
that appeal to the lust of man's eyes. (2) The Flesh which causes
sexual immorality, impurity, discord, jealousy, rage, selfish ambition,
dissension's, factions, envies, and every evil work. (3) And, the
Devil who is the 'god' of the world and seeks to tempt us into embracing
everything the world has to offer, including success, fame and fortune.
All three enemies directly effect human behavior.
The
Biblical Concepts of Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness
Full Restoration Requires the reliance upon the all sufficient Grace
of God. Restorative Therapy believes that God loves His children unconditionally,
accepts them completely in The Beloved, and forgives their sin absolutely
when they are identified with His Son's efficacious work of death,
burial and resurrection. Restorative Therapy believes that understanding
and appropriating God's Marvelous Grace opens the door for the believer
to experience a type of joy and peace that is not obtainable otherwise
or elsewhere. It is all of Grace, and not of works - lest anyone should
boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
The
Necessity of Faith
Full Restoration Requires the application of Biblical Faith to daily
living. Faith places man in a disposition to be able to move his eternal
position into his daily condition by seeing and agreeing with what
God is already doing in the Spiritual dimension. Restorative Therapy
believes that Faith is absolutely essential and learning how its principles
apply to mankind is not optional. (Romans 14:23; Hebrews 11:6; Romans
5:1)
